BMW has opened up the digital reservation book for the iX, its new flagship electric SUV, in Australia.
In return for AU$500 (US$372), customers can reserve a build slot on a first come, first served basis. Full pricing and specification details will be announced in mid-2021, and deliveries will commence in the fourth quarter of next year.
Unveiled one month ago, the iX will challenge the likes of the Audi E-Tron, Mercedes-Benz EQC and Tesla Model X. It features the brand’s fifth-gen BMW eDrive Technology and it is powered by two electric motors, which kick out a combined output in excess of 370 kW (503 PS / 496 HP).
Comparison: Finally A Fair Fight – BMW iX Vs. Audi E-Tron Vs. Mercedes EQC
The nought to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint is said to take less than 5 seconds, and with the 100 kWh (gross capacity) battery fully charged, it will travel for over 600 km (373 miles) on the WLTP cycle and 300+ miles (483 km) according to the EPA standard. The EV has a targeted electric power consumption of under 21 kWh every 100 km (62 miles).
The battery supports DC fast charging of up to 200 kW, so recharging it from 10 to 80 percent will take less than 40 minutes. Using an 11 kW Wallbox is an overnight process, as it will be juiced up completely from 0 percent in less than 11 hours.
Production of the iX will kick off at BMW’s Dingolfing facility in Germany in the second half of 2021, and if nothing interferes with the plan, then it should reach our shores in early 2022.
