Rinspeed has produced some of the most bizarre concept cars ever conceived and the Bedouin is one of the most intriguing.

First presented to the world at the Geneva Motor Show back in 2003, the Rinspeed Bedouin is based on a 996-generation Porsche 911 and received a host of bizarre exterior and interior modifications. Most notably, it can morph into a pickup truck in a matter of seconds.

The rear of Rinspeed’s concept sports a unique roofline that folds away and turns the rear luggage compartment into a pickup truck-esque bed. The operation of this roof is powered by two small electric motors while the tailgate itself is also electrically-operated and extends out by up to 45 cm.

This isn’t the only interesting aspect of the car. In a bid to ensure the Bedouin turned as many heads in Geneva as possible, Rinspeed gave it a striking chameleon paint job, jacked up the ride height by 15 cm, and fitted a set of high-profile tires.

Comprehensive modifications were also made to the cabin, as this video from Barcroft Cars reveals. For example, new leather adorns the seats, transmission tunnel, dashboard, and parts of the door panels. Rinspeed also placed thousands of individual crystals on the door panels to give the concept some added bling. As if these mods weren’t enough, Rinspeed also chopped off the top section of the steering wheel and replaced it with two Porsche gear knobs.
