BMW’s Malaysian branch is celebrating the new year with a special variant of the 5-Series named the Dark Shadow Edition.

Based on the 530i M Sport and limited to 36 cars, it is finished exclusively in Carbon Black and boasts a high gloss black kidney grille, black window finishers and 20-inch M Performance light alloy wheels with a Y-spoke design.

For the interior, customers will have to choose between Black Dakota leather with blue stitching or Cognac Dakota leather with contrast stitching. Features such as a head-up display, Harman Kardon premium sound system, gesture control, navigation, sunroof, electric boot lid, LED front fog lamps, M Sport Package, M Sport brakes and run-flat tires are standard in the regular 530i M Sport, so they will likely be included in the Dark Shadow Edition too.

Power is supplied by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 248 HP (252 PS / 185 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque and drives the rear wheels in the 530i sDrive or all four in the 530i xDrive. Both versions take 5.9 seconds to accelerate to 60 mph (96 km/h).

The Bavarian auto brand will launch the new 530i M Sport Dark Shadow Edition on its online shop on January 4, where customers will be able to book it for RM 1,000 ($248). The car will start at RM 392,800 ($97,219), which represents a RM 10,000 ($2,475) premium over the standard variant. It will also be displayed at select dealerships across Malaysia from January 1 until February 18.
