When Ken Block and the Hoonigan team decided to hand the reigns of the Gymkhana franchise over to Travis Pastrana, they commissioned the creation of what could be the world’s craziest Subaru WRX STI.
Built by Subaru Motorsports USA and Vermont SportsCar, Pastrana’s bespoke WRX STI features a custom boxer engine that’s been increased to 2.3-liters, includes a billet engine block, the crankshaft from Subaru’s RallyCross program. It also features billet heads, a twin timing belt system, a massive turbocharger, and an exhaust system exiting right out of the engine bay. It pumps out a cool 862 hp.
Mated to the engine is a six-speed Sadev sequential transmission, the exact same unit that Block’s Ford Mustang ‘Hoonicorn’ uses. As a recent testing video shows, the powertrain sounds utterly insane and is certainly fitting of a car from the Hoonigan team.

Then there’s the body. Vermont SportsCar developed a bespoke widebody kit for the WRX STI that’s all about maximizing aero. There are flared arches both front and rear as well as a dizzying array of fins, splitters, and canards across the exterior. What’s really cool is the adjustable rear wing that, at the touch of a button, can be adjusted. This wing was designed to allow Pastrana to alter the trajectory of the car when in mid-air during large jumping sequences.
Found within the cabin are a number of other cool features. For example, Pastrana can press a button on the steering wheel to make the exhaust system spew flames.
