Marriage requires a lot of love and understanding, and the guy who bought this 1989 Dodge Daytona for his wife clearly had both.

According to the seller, the man’s wife wanted a sporty car with a five-speed manual. As a result, he bought her a new Daytona ES.

While that’s typically where the story ends, it turns out that the wife discovered she hated driving a stick and stopped using the car after just two weeks. This would probably make most people furious, but the husband simply decided to store the car in a heated garage alongside his Corvette collection.

It largely sat there for the next 28 years, only being driven occasionally. The car was eventually sold in 2017 and its second owner only added an extra 100 miles (161 km). Thus, after 31 years, the coupe has been driven just 2,178 miles (3,505 km).

Given that the Daytona was kept in a heated garage and rarely driven, it’s little surprise that it appears like it just rolled off the assembly line. The two-tone paint job looks flawless and the ‘snowflake’ wheels are immaculate. Even the undercarriage is clean as there are only the slightest hints of rust and corrosion.

The excellent condition extends to the interior, with all four seats appear seeming to be in great shape. While the headliner is sagging a bit, everything else looks like it did more than three decades ago.

The listing is light on specifics, but the car is equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine which was available in naturally aspirated and turbocharged guise. The former produced 100 hp (75 kW / 101 PS), while the latter increased output to 150 hp (112 kW / 152 PS).

The Daytona is currently being auctioned off on eBay, but it’s also listed on James Edition for $18,500 (£13,655 / €15,184).
