The 2021 Mazda MX-5 has just received a series of updates in Australia, including the introduction of the new MX-5 RS GT which is available both in the Roadster and the RF.
Aimed exclusively at the Australian market, the RS GT boasts upgraded Brembo brakes with enhanced cooling and high-performance pads, reducing the unsprung mass by 2 kg (4.4 lbs). It also sports re-tuned gas-pressurized dampers from Bilstein, which, according to Mazda, provide more feedback and improve the car’s grip.
The new MX-5 GT RS also features a solid alloy strut tower brace for increased rigidity and rides on bespoke 17-inch forged alloy wheels from BBS shod in 205/45 Bridgestone Potenza S001 tires. Power comes from the 135 kW (184 PS / 181 HP) and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque SkyActiv-G 2.0-liter four-cylinder that’s mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

Slotting at the top of the MX-5 Roadster range, the Roadster GT RS starts at AU$47,020 (US$35,011), excluding on-road costs. The RF variant is positioned between the GT and the automatic GT Black Roof and has an MSRP of AU$51,100 (US$38,049).
Deliveries of the track-focused model will kick off in January 2021, alongside the rest of the MX-5 range, which has also been updated. The entire lineup benefits from standard wireless Apple CarPlay, which connects the user’s smartphone to the 7-inch infotainment system, supporting the already available wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The MX-5 RF GT Black Roof is available with the Pure White Nappa leather upholstery, and the 97 kW (132 PS / 130 HP) 1.5-liter MX-5 Roadster and 2.0-liter RF also get black-finished side mirror casings, while the new Deep Crystal Blue paint finish has been added to the color palette.
