Volkswagen has confirmed it has cancelled plans for an ID-badged all-electric off-roader.
In 2019, the automaker unveiled the ID Buggy and before long, confirmed that it would reach the production line thanks to a partnership that would see German company e.Go Mobile build the vehicle.
However, during a recent interview with Autocar, Volkswagen chief executive Ralf Brandstätter confirmed that plans to produce the car have fallen through due to e.Go Mobile facing bankruptcy.
“No, we won’t do this car. We had a partner, but in the end it didn’t work out,” Brandstätter stated.

Earlier this year, reports surfaced that Volkswagen was also designing a highly-capable electric off-roader known as the ID Ruggedzz. According to Autocar, the automaker went to the trouble of producing a full-scale design model of the vehicle with a rugged design. Unfortunately, this project has also been shelved for the time being.
“We’ve put it in the drawer,” Brandstätter revealed. “That is not to say it won’t be built, but I don’t think you’ll see it soon. We have more important projects on the run.”
One priority for Volkswagen is ramping up production and sales of the ID.4. A handful of other ID models are also on the cards, including a large crossover, a high-end sedan with similar dimensions to the Passat, and a production version of the ID. Space Vizzion sporty estate concept.
