2022 BMW 2-Series Coupe Spied Again Not Giving Away Its Secrets

With a new 2-Series Coupe set to launch this year, anticipation is high and, as you can see in these spy images, BMW is still hard at work testing it.

The shots show the car winter testing on snowy roads. The roofline, if anything, looks steeper and more coupe-like than the current model. It’s hard to tell under all the camo to what degree the grille will grow, but it will be interesting to see if BMW will buck the trend of oversized kidneys. Which might very well be the case, as leaked images suggest that the new car’s grille will be reasonably-sized.

The new car will be based onto BMW’s CLAR platform, instead of the front-wheel drive UKL used by the 2-Series Gran Coupe and 2-Series Active Tourer. This means that, much to petrolheads’ joy, it will be rear-wheel drive and shall host a number of petrol and diesel engines, with the range-topping M2 Coupe expected to use a – possibly detuned – version of the M3’s and M4’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six.

With the M3 and M4 offering a manual transmission, odds are that the M2 will, apart from a dual-clutch gearbox, be also available with a manual.

The all-new 2-Series Coupe is expected to launch sometime in 2021, possibly as a 2022 model year, and will be followed next year by the new M2 Coupe.
