Big grilles, oversized wheels, huge infotainment screens, and electrified powertrains are the automotive industry’s latest trends, and BMW is all about them.
The new 4-Series’ ostentatious design has sparked quite the controversy, and most of that is probably going to be redirected at the upcoming 7-Series, judging from the spy shots of the camouflaged test cars.
All things point to the brand’s flagship sedan having a very controversial front end, with the headlamps mounted further down, a design feature that will be shared with the facelifted X7 and the also upcoming X8.

The latest spy shots show the 2022 7-Series testing in Northern Europe’s sub-freezing temperatures, revealing hints of a giant bucktooth grille. Just this once, we won’t complain about the prototype having too much camouflage on.
The car’s overall proportions seem to be similar to its predecessor, save for the taller roofline that will make the rear passenger compartment more spacious.
Speaking of the cockpit, expect a digital revolution, with most functions controlled at the touch of a screen, to the delight of the tech-savvy. The cabin will also be bathed in the finest leather, and we wouldn’t be surprised if recycled plastics and other green materials make their way inside.
Petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric options will be part of the engine family, with the latter taking the battle to the Mercedes-Benz EQS.
As for the unveiling date, reports indicate that it might premiere sometime in 2022 or perhaps early 2023.
