BMW has created a fictional M Town where the streets are smooth, the weather is good and everyone drives an M model.
However, the company is hiding a dark secret as the real M Town is actually a frozen hellscape in Northern Europe.
We’re kidding of course, but it’s hard not to believe this is the real M Town as it recently hosted a convoy on M models. Besides the facelifted X3 M and X4 M, we can see the all-new M4 Convertible. Even further back, two M4 Coupes are bringing up the rear.

That’s an impressive collection of M models, but we’re focusing on the 2022 X3 M this time around. As you can see, it will receive a minor refreshing that includes an updated fascia, a revised grille and slimmer headlights.
Speaking of the latter, they incorporate new LED daytime running lights that eschew the current C-shape. Further below, there’s a revised air intake which no longer features a bridge-like accent. Additional changes are limited, but we can expect a new rear bumper as well as updated taillights.
We haven’t gotten a good look inside, but the crossover will reportedly receive a larger infotainment system running the latest software. The model could also follow in the footsteps of the M3 and M4 by adopting a new shifter, updated switchgear and a revised iDrive controller.
Under the hood, we can expect a familiar twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine producing 473 hp (352 kW / 479 PS) and 442 lb-ft (598 Nm) of torque in base guise. Moving up to the Competition variant should increase that figure to at least 503 hp (375 kW / 510 PS).
The facelifted BMW X3 M is expected to debut later this year, but the exact timing remains a mystery.
