Driving a car fast and well on a tight, twisty road lined with trees on either side takes a lot of skill. It also takes some massive balls, as the Japanese driver of this blue Honda S2000 obviously has.

This clip only recently came across our radar having first been posted in May 2020. While it’s not new, it shows some incredible onboard footage from the S2000 as it competes in a Time Attack session through a forest in Japan.

The S2000 in question sports a host of aftermarket aerodynamic parts to stick it to the pavement but as far as we can tell, no significant alterations have been made to the high-revving four-cylinder VTEC engine.

As soon as the driver gets off the line, it’s obvious that he is extremely comfortable behind the wheel and knows how to drive the sports car to its absolute limits. At the 1:52 mark of the video, the driver of the S2000 has a particularly scary moment as he catches air over a crest in the road before slamming back into the pavement and briefly bouncing back up into the air for a second time.

The force of these two hits kicks out the tail of the Honda and it seems inevitable the driver will crash heavily. However, thanks to his lightning-quick reflexes, he is able to keep the car under control. Making things all the more impressive is the fact that the driver continued to speed through the forest at frightening speeds despite the near-miss, showing to us mere mortals that professional racing drivers have more than just blood pumping through their veins.
