McLaren is certainly no stranger to the world of sim racing, having their own esports program, and an F1 driver, Lando Norris, who actively participates in it. On that note, the company has announced an all-new sim racing competition in partnership with VELO, this time with a focus on entertainment personalities rather than trained drivers.
The VELO ESERIES will be a four-part event, and will feature DJ/singer songwriter/producer Craig David, as well as automotive YouTuber Supercar Blondie in the first part, called Series 1.
There’s no word as to the guests taking part in the other three rounds yet, and the game of choice and format of the competition have yet to be announced, but we do know that ex-Top Gear host Rory Reid will be one of the presenters.

Each series will be split into three episodes. The first will have the participants go through a boot camp at McLaren’s Woking headquarters. The second episode will give the celebrities their new found skills, which involves the two participants racing head-to-head. In the third episode, fans then get to participate in qualifiers to join the grid and race against the celebrities in a live-streamed “Beat Your Heroes” episode.
Series 1 launches this weekend on January 9th, with further episodes set to come over the coming months, concluding at the end of April. All of the content will be available on VELO’s social channels, including the livestream of each virtual race on their YouTube channel. The Craig David and Supercar Blondie race for series 1 will take place at 1 PM GMT on February 6th.
