Electric motorcycles are still in their infancy, but a new challenger has just emerged and unveiled an electric bike that doesn’t just look cool but is also extremely affordable.
Dubbed the Sondors Metacycle, the bike will start at a mere $5,000; not bad when you consider you can spend that much on a high-end, carbon fiber bicycle that requires pedal power and nothing else.

Powering the Metacycle is a 4,000 watt-hour battery that provides a respectable 80 miles (129 km) of range. That may not sound like much, but if you’re just going to and from the office each day, it should be adequate for most. The hub motor found at the rear produces 11 hp and 80 lb-ft (108 Nm) but those figures can rise to as high as 20 hp and 200 lb-ft (271 Nm), more than enough to make the bike feel very spritely off the line, while top speed sits at 80 mph (130 km/h).
The Metacycle can be charged through normal public charging stations, although the battery itself is also removable and can be charged elsewhere.
Sondors has built the motorcycle around an aluminum frame and it tips the scales at a mere 200 lbs (91 kg). One interesting feature of the Metacycle is a storage cubby and charging area for a smartphone just in front of the seat and complete with a clear viewing cover.
Pre-orders for the bike have opened and require a $100 deposit. The first deliveries are expected to take place in the fourth quarter of 2021.
