Peugeot recently launched zero-emission versions of the Partner and Rifter, and now Citroen has done the same to the Berlingo.
Getting an ‘e’ in front of its name to highlight its electric nature, the 2021 e-Berlingo uses the same powertrain as its siblings from Peugeot, namely a 136 PS (134 HP / 100 kW) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) electric motor powered by a 50 kWh battery, and it has a 135 km/h (84 mph) top speed.
The lithium-ion battery gives it a WLTP range of up to 280 km (174 miles), 5 km (3 miles) more than the e-Partner and e-Rifter. It needs 7.5 hours to charge at a 7 kW Wallbox with the standard 7.4 kW single-phase on-board charger (11 kW three-phase is optional) or 5 hours at 22 kW, and an 80 percent charge can be completed in 30 minutes at 100 kW.
Review: Can The Citroen Berlingo Make It In An SUV-Saturated Market?
The 2021 e-Berlingo is offered in the Medium and XL variants, which are 4.4 and 4.75 meters (173-187 in) long respectively, with 5 or 7 seats (XL only) and the optional Modutop parcel shelf that is part of the 26 storage compartments inside. Boot space is 775 liters (27 cu-ft) in the M and 1,050 liters (37 cu-ft) in the five-seat XL. The longer version has a boot volume of up to 2,126 liters (75 cu-ft) with the rear seats folded and can haul items up to 3.05 m (120 in) long.
The center console sports the e-Toggle switch, which allows drivers to select between Drive, Neutral, Park and Reverse, access the regenerative braking functions and choose the driving mode (Eco 60 kW, Normal 80 kW and Power 100 kW – identical to the e-Rifter).
Elsewhere, the French electric MPV features an 8-inch touchscreen display with a dedicated ‘Energy’ section in the menu, smartphone integration, available 10-inch digital instrument cluster, color head-up display, reversing camera, hill-start and descent assist, active safety brake, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, driver attention alert and others.
Citroen will launch the e-Berlingo in continental Europe in the second half of 2021, while in the UK it will be available from Q4.
