Cupra is celebrating its third anniversary by pulling the wraps off the Formentor VZ5, its new range-topping SUV.
The model will be shown as part of an online event that will start at 5:00 a.m. ET (11:00 a.m. CET) and will also reveal a glimpse of the Spanish brand’s future, from “new collaborations and our vision of electric performance on the road and also on the racetracks”.

Said to be a “limited-run addition” to the family, the Formentor VZ5 uses Audi Sport’s turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine. They have yet to announce how much power it has, but in the RS Q3 and RS Q3 Sportback it develops 394 HP (400 PS / 294 kW) and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque, and comes coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive. The 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration takes 4.5 seconds in the two German SUVs, which max out at 155 mph (250 km/h), or 174 mph (280 km/h) with the optional removed V-max limiter.
In addition to the new powertrain, the Formentor VZ5 will feature a dedicated suspension set-up and upgraded brakes. A more aggressive body kit is also expected, differentiating it from the regular versions of the compact SUV. The diagonally stacked tailpipes on each side of the diffuser, ‘VZ5’ logo to the right side of the tailgate next to the ‘Cupra’ lettering, and bespoke wheels will round out the looks on the outside. In the cabin, it should have a pair of bucket seats up front, exclusive upholstery and trim, and perhaps different graphics for the infotainment system and digital dials.
