Stellantis’ EcoDiesel engine is living up to its name as Ram has introduced a more fuel-efficient pickup.
Set to be launched in the second quarter, the new Ram 1500 Tradesman HFE EcoDiesel has a fuel economy rating of 23 mpg city, 33 mpg highway and 26 mpg combined.
While Ram was quick to point out the truck delivers an “unsurpassed highway rating of 33 mpg,” that’s nothing to brag about as the diesel-powered Chevrolet Silverado has an EPA fuel economy rating of up to 23 mpg city, 33 mpg highway and 27 mpg combined.

Putting fuel economy aside, the truck features a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine that produces 260 hp (194 kW / 264 PS) and 480 lb-ft (651 Nm) of torque. Its presumably paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels.
The Ram 1500 Tradesman HFE EcoDiesel will be available exclusively as a crew cab pickup with a 5’ 7” bed and 20-inch aluminum wheels. The truck also sports black bumpers and a black grille as well as a limited color palette of Diamond Black Crystal or Bright White Clear Coat. Rounding out the highlights are cloth bucket seats, a tonneau cover and side steps.
Pricing starts at $42,240 – excluding a $1,695 destination charge – and Ram CEO Mike Koval Jr said “Ram is committed to innovation and powertrain leadership, and as the no-compromise benchmark for efficiency and performance, we continue to listen to customer input by offering unsurpassed fuel economy.”
