2021 VW Tiguan Gains Two New Engines In The UK, Including Golf GTI’s 245PS Unit

Volkswagen has introduced two new engines to the Tiguan lineup in the United Kingdom, both of them benefiting from the 4Motion all-wheel drive system.

The 2.0-liter TSI produces 190 PS (187 HP / 140 kW) at 4,180-6,500 rpm and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque between 1,500 and 4,300 rpm. The 7-speed DSG directs power to all four wheels, and in this configuration, the Tiguan needs 7.4 seconds for the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration and has a 214 km/h (133 mph) V-max.

The other offering uses the same four-pot as the new Golf GTI, a 2.0-liter TSI with 245 PS (242 HP / 180 kW) between 4,750 and 6,500 rpm, and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of peak torque at 1,500-4,300 rpm. This model is also offered with a 7-speed automatic transmission, with the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) taking 6.0 seconds. Top speed stands at 229 km/h (142 mph).

“With this powerful duo of petrol engines, the Tiguan is more capable than ever – offering space, power, quality, flexibility and the road-holding (or off-roading) prowess of 4Motion all-wheel drive”, said VW UK’s Tiguan Product Manager, Hannah Doherty. “Increasing choice for customers for Volkswagen’s best-selling SUV is also a big boost!”

The Tiguan 2.0 TSI 190 PS 4Motion is available in the Elegance and R-Line trim levels in the UK, with pricing starting at £36,275 ($50,308) and £36,140 ($50,121) respectively. The Tiguan 2.0 TSI 245 PS 4Motion comes strictly in the R-Line spec, with a recommended retail price of £39,560 ($54,864) and serves as the range-topping model, until the Tiguan R launches locally, with its 320 PS (315 HP / 235 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) 2.0-liter turbo-four. It too uses a 7-speed DSG and 4Motion, but the extra oomph drops the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) to 4.9 seconds; top speed is 250 km/h (155 mph).
