A prototype of the forthcoming Ford Bronco Warthog has been filmed in the midst of testing in Moab, Utah.

Ford itself has already teased the flagship variant of the new Bronco but the prototype in this video has slightly less camouflage and body cladding than seen on prior vehicles. It appears to be rocking the same massive 37-inch tires as previously confirmed by Ford and also has flared wheel arches.

However, it won’t be the tires and wheel arches that differentiate the Bronco Warthog the most from other Bronco variants but rather its engine. All signs point towards the off-roader using the same 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 as the Explorer ST. This engine delivers 400 hp and 415 lb-ft (562 Nm) when used in the Explorer and if those figures are retained for the Bronco Warthog, it will give it a significant power advantage over the 4×4’s current 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with its 310 hp and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm).

The video doesn’t give us much of an idea of what the Bronco Warthog will sound like but we’re sure that once it is ready for production, it won’t sound as muted as this prototype. In addition to the new engine and wheels/tires, Ford will no doubt upgrade various suspension and braking components of the Bronco Warthog.

The vehicle’s closest rival will be the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 that offers a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 with an impressive 470 hp and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque. Ford has previously downplayed the possibility of selling the Bronco with a V8.
