Hyundai has commenced production of the all-new Tucson in the U.S. The compact SUV is manufactured at the Alabama manufacturing plant, alongside the Sonata and Elantra sedans and the bigger Santa Fe SUV.
“Adding this fourth Hyundai vehicle to HMMA’s (Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama) production lineup will help the Hyundai brand meet the growing demand for SUVs in the North American market”, said the brand’s local President and CEO, Jose Munoz. “It will also better position HMMA to fully utilize its vehicle assembly capacity.”
Review: What’s It Like To Live With The 2022 Hyundai Tucson?
Set to arrive at dealers across the nation this spring, the 2022 Tucson will be offered in eight trim levels. The lineup kicks off with the SE, which brings standard 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and DRLs, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Hyundai’s SmartSense Safety Features. The SEL adds a proximity key, heated front seats, power driver’s seat, smart cruise control, blind spot collision and cross traffic avoidance, and Blue Link.
Next comes the Blue Hybrid, with its HTRAC AWD system and heated front seats, features also found on the Blue Plug-in Hybrid. The N Line has unique exterior and interior accents, 19-inch wheels, alloy pedals and scuff plates, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and digital key. The Limited boasts a panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel and rear seats, surround view monitor, remote parking, and front and rear parking sensors. The Limited Hybrid is identically specced, save for the panoramic sunroof, and so is the Limited Plug-in Hybrid range-topper.
The 2022 Tucson is available with three powertrains. The petrol version is powered by a 187 HP naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission and optional AWD. The hybrid variant has a 177 HP 1.6-liter turbocharged mill and a 59 HP electric motor, for a combined output of 226 HP, and a 1.49 kWh battery pack. Finally, the PHEV has a 177 HP 1.6-liter turbocharged lump, a 90 HP electric motor and a 13.8 kWh battery pack that gives it an estimated electric range of 28 miles (45 km), and its combined output is 261 HP.
