Cadillac has chosen to showcase both the all-electric Lyriq and its advanced Super Cruise hands-free driving feature for its Super Bowl commercial for 2021.

The commercial revolves around a boy named Edgar Scissorhands, played by Timotheé Chalamet, who was born with scissors for hands. Much like Edward Scissorhands, Edgar encounters a lot of challenges due to his hands but one challenge he no longer has to face is driving, thanks to Super Cruise.

The latest iteration of the Super Cruise allows for hands-free driving on compatible roads meaning that even Edgar Scissorhands can enjoy the pleasures of being behind the wheel.

This isn’t the only Super Bowl commercial to feature the Cadillac Lyriq. In fact, the official commercial from General Motors features both the Lyriq and the GMC Hummer EV in highlighting the company’s shift to electric vehicles.

The Cadillac Lyriq unveiled to the world is a show car but is said to be 80-85 per cent representative of the production model. It will go on sale in 2022 and be based on GM’s next-generation modular EV platform, complete with the brand’s Ultium electric powertrain. Both rear- and all-wheel drive variants of the Lyriq will be available.

It’s not just the exterior design of the Lyriq that is striking but also its interior. The highlight of the cabin is its 33-inch LED single-piece display that encompasses both the digital gauge cluster and the infotainment system. This screen has the highest pixel density of any screen currently found in the automotive industry and works alongside a dual-plane augmented reality-enhanced heads-up display.
