Dropped from the United States as Ford decided to put its money into crossovers and SUVs instead, the fourth-gen Focus is getting ready to be updated on the other side of the pond.
The facelifted model has made its spy photo debut in the quasi-crossover Active Wagon variant, which was seen in Germany with its front and rear ends covered up, albeit with a face that seems to have been inspired by the bigger Mondeo (Fusion).

Compared to its predecessor, it has smaller headlights with revised graphics, a new grille with horizontal slats (though, that might differ from version to version) and a different bumper with relocated fog lamp housings and a slightly cleaner design. The back end has underwent several revisions too, getting a pair of slimmer taillights with a different pattern, but the rear bumper appears to have carried over, at least on this prototype.
Elsewhere, the car had the black plastic cladding on the side skirts and bumpers and around the wheel arches, and a slightly bigger ground clearance compared to the regular Focus estate, a clear indicator that we are indeed looking at the Active variant. Don’t mind the steel wheels, however, as they won’t make its way to the production model.
The cabin should be slightly updated with focus (pun intended) on the technical bits, and the engine family should be revised as well, with some reports claiming that a plug-in hybrid powertrain is likely on the cards.
Ford has been quiet about the facelifted Focus range, but we don’t expect it to launch in the European market before next year.
