If you’re interested in racing and you’re a fan of the Civic, then there’s great news: Honda Performance Development is opening up sales of its Civic Type R crate engine to more people.

Although the K20C1 crate engine has been on sale since 2017, it was exclusively available to Honda Racing Line members and racing teams. But now, anyone who wants one for their own privateer race car (or any off-highway application) is welcome to buy one.

As a result, Honda has added a few goodies to make the crate engine a little more approachable. Along with the engine, you’ll get an alternator, a turbocharger, a starter motor, and a Controls Package.

“The new limited-edition crate engine package is part of HPD’s strategy to leverage our pinnacle expertise for the benefit of Honda fans of all ages and motorsports categories,” he added.

The new crate engine will be available as of May 1, 2021, and interested parties can purchase it through newly established official HPD dealers, who will also provide technical support for custom installations.
