The Toyota GR Yaris has the most powerful three-cylinder production engine in the world. But did you really think tuners were going to leave well enough alone? Of course not…
So what do you get if you spend some money on a tune? Well, in exchange for £640 ($885 USD), Litchfield will fit a piggyback ECU and a special air filter that increase power from 261 HP to a very impressive 305 HP.
To find out how much faster Litchfield’s GR Yaris is compared to a stock one, CarWow took them to a rainy airfield and pitted them against each other. The standard car managed the sprint in 13.3 seconds, while (when everything went well) the Litchfield-tuned Yaris needed 12.9 seconds.

Perhaps more impressively, though, the Litchfield tune allowed host Mat Watson to win a drag race even when he got beaten off the line. That suggests that the tune did, indeed, make a difference and this wasn’t just a case of one of the drivers being better or worse.
In the end, this tune makes the GR Yaris quicker in every test the CarWow team can conceive (except the brake test). In hindsight, that seems obvious, but it’s still interesting to see how it all translates on the track and reassuring to know that the tune really works.
