In the middle of 2020, Porsche introduced a new entry-level variant of the Taycan, but for whatever reason, it was limited to to China. Fast forward to the early 2021, and it is available to a handful of other markets as well.
Simply known as the Porsche Taycan RWD, it features a single electric motor that powers the rear wheels and is good for 402 hp and 254 lb-ft (344 Nm) of torque. While that may not sound like much when you consider the Taycan Turbo S has over 700 hp, 400 hp is still a lot of power that can send the electric saloon to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 5.1 seconds and allow it to reach a top speed of 143 mph (230 km/h).

As standard, the Taycan RWD comes with a 79.2 kWh battery pack that in Europe is good for a WLTP range of up to 268 miles (431 km). Customers looking for increased range can upgrade to the Performance Battery Plus variant that has 93.4 kWh of capacity, boosting the range to 301 miles (484 km) while also increasing the electric motor’s output to 469 hp and 263 lb-ft (357 Nm).
To see if the most affordable Porsche Taycan is the one to buy, Mat Watson from CarWow recently had the opportunity to put it through its paces. For the most part, the Taycan RWD looks just like other variants from the outside, aside from the black rocker panels. It’s a similar story in the interior as it comes loaded with just as many screens as a top of the range variant.
