Your next pandemic racing obsession is on its way. Hot Wheels Unleashed is the latest arcade-style racing game for the PC, Playstation (4 and 5), Nintendo Switch, and Xbox (series x|s and one).
Unveiled with a trailer (below), it promises high-intensity fun that walks the line between wheel-to-wheel action and the simple fun of the real toys.
The game is being developed by Italy’s Milestone studio, which has produced a number of racing games, most of which are motorcycle-related. With a number of official MotoGP games under its belt, the racing should be pretty good. It has also been designed, it seems, by Hot Wheels fans.
“Like many other team members who worked on the game, I’ve been playing with Hot Wheels since I was a child,” said Michele Caletti, Executive Producer, Milestone. “And today I’m still a hungry Hot Wheels fan and collector.”

The studio hasn’t forgotten that it’s making a Hot Wheels game, it says. Although it has the experience to generate intense racing, it will also focus on fun.
“We’re all so committed in delivering the purest and most authentic Hot Wheels gameplay experience ever in a videogame,” said Caletti. “We owe it to the Hot Wheels community and to our inner children.”
The game promises an extensive choice of vehicles, skins, and tracks, as well as a track editor function. That should enable you to make crazy tracks to challenge you and your friends because they can be shared online.
There are still a few question marks as to exactly how it plays. The ad shows non-gameplay racing so it will be interesting to see how many of the elements we see make it into the game.
Mattel and Milestone promise a full launch on September 30, 2021.
