Volkswagen has made another addition to the ID.3 lineup by launching the new Pro variant in the United Kingdom.

Available for the Life, Business and Family specifications of the electric compact hatchback, it features a 145 PS (143 HP / 107 kW) and 270 Nm (199 lb-ft) of torque motor, powered by the same 58 kWh battery as the 204 PS (201 HP) Pro Performance.

The charging time remains the same, so recharging the battery pack to 80 percent takes 35 minutes at a 100 kW Direct Current charger. The driving range is 423 km (263 miles) and the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint takes 9.6 seconds. By comparison, the 204 PS (201 HP / 150 kW) version of the ID.3 is 2.3 seconds faster.

In terms of pricing, the new ID.3 Life Pro can be had from £28,670 ($39,637), including the local government grant, which makes it £1,320 ($1,825) cheaper than the previous entry-level version, the Life Pro Performance that has been available since last year. The Business Pro and Family Pro models have a recommended retail price of £32,400 ($44,794) and £33,330 ($46,080) respectively.

“Like many other Volkswagen models, the ID.3 range aims to offer plenty of choice for the customer – and that includes powertrain options”, said VW UK’s ID. Product Manager, Joe Laurence. “And, of course, making ‘The Electric People’s Car’ accessible to an even wider band of the EV-buying public is a direct and welcome result of this.”

VW will further expand the ID.3 family later this year, introducing and even more affordable variant, the Pure, with a 45 kWh battery. Details about it will be announced in due course.
