The new Porsche 911 GT3 has been revealed, and like every GT3 that came before it, it was accompanied by a very impressive lap time on the world’s most notorious track, the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The 992-based GT3 is the first model of its name to lap the German track in under seven minutes, with Porsche announcing an amazing 6:59.927, set by development driver Lars Kern on September 15, 2020.

However, as it turns out, this time was recorded on the full 20.8-km lap of the Nürburgring, which Porsche just started using as a benchmark. The time for the shorter 20.6-km lap the carmaker used until recently is an even more impressive 6:55.2 minutes, thus making the new 911 GT3 more than 17 seconds faster than its predecessor, which set a time of 7:12.7 minutes, as well as 1.2 seconds faster than the last 911 GT3 RS (6:56.4 min).
Porsche also added that the new 911 GT3 was consistently delivering times close to its fastest over several laps and during “final tuning works”. The car was fitted with the optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, which until now were reserved for RS models only.
The 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine that can spin up to 9,000 rpm and produce 502 HP and 346 lb-ft (469 Nm) of torque. A specially engineered seven-speed PDK transmission is fitted as standard, with customers are given the choice of a six-speed manual transmission as well.
The 992-based GT3 is also the first road-legal 911 to feature a new double-wishbone front axle that further improves the handling, in combination with the wider by 1.9 inches front track. In addition, the new adjustable aero kit of the body can produce up to 150 percent more downforce in its more aggressive setting on track.
