There’s something about Teslas that gets people excited. Sure, many have their misgivings, some about the EV trend, others about SUVs in general, but you can never please anyone, can you?
As Regular Car Reviews argues in its latest video, the Model Y is just a compact SUV that you could easily mistake for any other car. A nice car, but not something that you have to make Silicon Valley money to be able to afford.
For all the hype surrounding the Tesla brand and the way it attracts attention from even the most casual observers of the automotive market, the Model Y is a surprisingly normal affair. There are oddities, to be sure (the horn sound is customizable, the glovebox only opens from the infotainment center), but it’s not intimidating.
Like its design, the Model Y bears the trappings of Teslas (for better and worse) but is the most normal model yet. It’s the perfect ride, argues the review, for people who want a Tesla but not all the attention that comes with one.

It still has all the benefits of Tesla without many of the drawbacks. The dual-motor version tested here accelerates hard enough to make even the most mature among us giggle and make spaceship noises with our mouths. It’s among the most efficient vehicles on the road. And you can have all of the whizzbang features of any Tesla.
But its boring looks mean you can slip by without drawing attention to yourself, although some may be wary of build quality issues that are still popping up.
Nevertheless, in the words of the narrator, it fulfills the expectations of a regular car with impressive adequacy.
