The New 2022 VW ID.6 Electric 7-Seater SUV Outed As An ID.4 XL

Volkswagen’s ID.6 has been revealed by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Looking instantly recognizable, the ID.6 follows in the footsteps of the ID.4 but adopts larger headlights and a revised front fascia with a faux intake.

The familiar design continues further back, but the ID.6 features a flatter beltline and a larger greenhouse with new rear quarter glass. The model also sports plastic body cladding, a gently sloping roof and flush-mounted door handles.

The rear end is familiar as well as there are slender taillights and a tailgate-mounted spoiler. However, the lower half is unique as the model has horizontal reflectors and a revised bumper with a faux skid plate.

According to documents accompanying the photos, the ID.6 measures 192 inches (4876 mm) long and has a wheelbase that spans 116.7 inches (2965 mm). This makes the crossover 11.5 inches (292 mm) longer than the ID.4 with a wheelbase that has been stretched 7.8 inches (198 mm). Thanks to the extra room, the ID.6 will be a family friendly seven-seater.

The documents also reveal the model will come equipped with an electric motor that develops 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS). This isn’t terribly surprising as the ID.4 also uses the same rear motor. However, we can also expect an all-wheel drive variant that has two electric motors and a combined output of 302 hp (225 kW / 306 PS).

There’s no word on battery capacity, but the ID.4 has an 82 kWh battery pack that enables the model to have an EPA-estimated range of 250 miles (402 km).

Volkswagen is expected to introduce the ID.6 later this year, so expect to learn more in the coming months.
