The long-awaited BMW M3 Touring is just around the corner and inspired by that car, a designer on Instagram has decided to see what the M4 would look like in Shooting Brake guise.
With the exception of the massive kidney grilles of the new M3 and M4, I quite like the exterior designs of the two, particularly the M4. Its body panels are aggressive and many of the lines are perfectly sculpted so it’s little surprise that it works beautifully as a shooting brake.
The designer, who goes by the name of sugardesign_1 on Instagram, hasn’t altered the front of the M4 but from the doors back, a plethora of changes have been made. The most obvious change is the lengthening of the roof to give the vehicle that iconic Shooting Brake look.

There is also a more upright rear window than the standard M4 and a set of stunning rear haunches very similar to those of the Ferrari GTC4Lusso.
As much as we would love to see BMW create an M4 Shooting Brake like this, the sad truth is that it won’t as such a model would only sell in very small numbers. It could also snatch away sales from the forthcoming M3 Touring which, under the skin, is pretty much the same car but with two extra doors and seats.
Standard variants of the 2021 BMW M3 and M4 use a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six with 473 hp and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque. Those after a little more performance can opt for the Competition variants that deliver 503 hp.
