A few days ago, we reported about this K5 Blazer conversion or rather, reverse restomod. A divisive but none-the-less impressive, hand-crafted conversion of a modern-day Tahoe into a retro-inspired classic Chevy homage.
Yes, it wasn’t a two-door, but you can thank Chevrolet for depriving us of a true Blazer reincarnation — instead, we got a crossover that was but a shadow of the original.
Now, the team behind that conversion, Flat Out Autos, has gone ahead and shown off the first renders of their next creation: a 1970 K5 GMC Jimmy-converted 2020 GMC Yukon Denali. And dare we say it looks even better than the Blazer-Tahoe?
Yes, while GM hum and haw about offering up a true Jimmy/Trailblazer resurrection to take on the approval-pleasing Bronco, the tuning company (that’s more accustomed to restomodding Corvettes) has gone and beaten them to the punch, with the first Jimmy already in the build stage.
“We are currently working on a GMC Jimmy Conversion for a client using a 2020 Yukon Denali,” Rob Hester, owner of Flat Out Autos, told CarScoops. “[It] will have the iconic quad headlights, and the owners chose a custom mixed solid cocoa color with a light cream roof.”
Orders for these custom conversions are made in a limited capacity, with Hester expecting to fill 2021’s order books in the next few weeks. His previous Blazer creation has already received immense demand, with the Royal Family of Abu Dhabi ordering four identical cars.
The GMC Jimmy conversion will cost the same as the Blazer, at $69,950, excluding the cost of a base car. In the K5 Jimmy’s case, the base GMC Yukon Denali starts at $68,400. Each conversion features a blend of hand-crafted panels and reproduction parts to achieve the retro look. The entire job takes 90-120 days, and the conversions are built on a first-come, first-served basis.
So which would you put an order in for a Blazer-converted Tahoe or a Jimmy-converted Yukon?
