If BMW wants to improve the styling of its current models (not likely, as it insists it’s on the right path), it would be wise to look at some of the cars from its past. Take this 1988 M6, for example.
Currently listed up for sale on Bring A Trailer and located in Austin, Texas, this M6 was acquired by the seller in August 2004 and even though it is 33 years old, it still looks good.

The listing reveals that the car was repainted in June 2019 in the original Cinnabar Red. The power sunroof was also refurbished at the same time and the weather-stripping around the doors was also replaced. Making the car all that more appealing are the 17-inch BBS wheels with gold centers and polished lips sourced from an E39 5-Series and wrapped in 235/40 Sumitomo HTRZ II tires.
A handful of performance modifications have been made to the car. For example, there is a UUC Motorwerks big-brake kit that includes six-piston Wilwood calipers and slotted rotors all around. The suspension has also been modified with new bushings, camber plates, front and rear sway bars, and sport springs, while at the rear there are Bilstein shocks.
A look inside reveals power-adjustable sport seats recently reupholstered in Lotus White leather, an M shift knob, air conditioning, power windows, and an onboard computer. The seller also recently installed a Pioneer infotainment system and upgraded the audio system to include 6.5-inch Focal speakers at the front and rear and 8-inch JL Audio subwoofers.
Power is provided by a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated inline-six producing 256 hp and 243 lb-ft from the factory. This example has 116,000 miles (186,000 km) under its belt.
