Unplugged Performance has a long history of modifying Tesla models and has recently launched a limited-slip differential for the Model 3 and Model Y.
Owners of the flagship Model 3 Performance can switch their cars into Track Mode, enabling a torque vectoring system that shuffles torque between the wheels. While the Model Y Performance doesn’t have a dedicated Track Mode, it too is capable of some pretty impressive handling. However, both cars still use open differentials.

The limited-slip differential developed by Unplugged Performance is a direct drop-in replacement for the stock differential and effectively distributes power between the wheels without relying on the brakes and stability control software. This doesn’t just improve on-track performance but also improves handling on the street, particularly in slippery conditions such as on roads covered in snow and ice.
Testing and validation of the LSD was completed with the help of racing driver Randy Pobst and it comes with a lifetime warranty. Unfortunately, installing the LSD may void the warranties of the Tesla drive unit and other associated parts, meaning it could be a good idea to wait until the four-year standard warranty of the Model 3 and Model Y is up before fitting the LSD.
The limited-slip differential from Unplugged Performance is priced at $2,195 and is one of many performance upgrades offered. Other modifications include coilovers, lowering springs, adjustable sway bars, carbon ceramic brakes, track brake pads, adjustable shocks, and a new oil cooler.
