Automatic and dual-clutch transmissions have become so commonplace nowadays that it’s easy to forget that there was a time when vehicles such as performance-oriented SUVs could actually be purchased with a manual gearbox.
Take this 2009 Porsche Cayenne GTS, for example. It recently sold on Cars & Bids for $26,957, making it a bit of a bargain when you consider the performance it provides. What’s more, it also has a six-speed manual transmission.

Powering the Cayenne GTS is a 4.8-liter naturally aspirated V8 delivering 405 hp and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. While nowadays performance SUVs are substantially more powerful, this is still very fast for practically all occasions.
Key upgrades enjoyed by the Cayenne GTS over the lesser Cayenne S of the same vintage included a lowered ride height, firmer suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management, 21-inch wheels, and some changes to the bodywork, including the front fascia of the Cayenne Turbo.
Found within the cabin is a mixture of leather and Alcantara upholstery, heated seats and steering wheel, the Porsche Communication Management infotainment system, a Bose audio setup, and Bluetooth connectivity. The Cayenne GTS also has variable power steering and a sports exhaust.
While this particular Cayenne is no longer up for grabs, perhaps it might tempt you to open up the classifieds and look for another. A quick search on Autotrader shows just one other Cayenne GTS for sale in the country with the six-speed manual.
