Audi has started production of the Q4 E-Tron at the Zwickau plant in Germany. The brand’s electric SUV is being assembled on the same lines as the Volkswagen ID.4, which is based on the same platform.
Production is said to be carbon-neutral from the start, with the factory covering its energy needs by using renewables. When the BEV reaches the end of its lifecycle, the battery will be recycled or used in second-life concepts. Moreover, Audi is working to minimize carbon dioxide emissions in the value chain.

“With the start of production of the Audi Q4 E-Tron, the Volkswagen plant in Zwickau is now a multi-brand plant. As a result, we are writing yet another chapter in the long history of the automotive industry here in Saxony”, said the Chairman of the executive management of Volkswagen Saxony, Stefan Loth. “I’d like to thank all the Audi employees who are currently manufacturing the vehicles to the very highest quality, in the agreed-upon volume, and on schedule.”
A rival to the likes of the Tesla Model Y, Mercedes-Benz EQB, BMW iX, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Nissan Ariya and Genesis JW, as well as its siblings from Volkswagen and Skoda, the ID.4 and Enyaq, the Q4 E-Tron will premiere in April, with the exact date to be announced shortly. It will go on sale across Europe starting this summer, boasting interior space on par with the mid-size class and gear such as an augmented reality head-up display, touch sensitive controls on the steering wheel and green materials used throughout the cockpit.
