The third-generation Honda Pilot is nearly six years old, so it comes as little surprise the company is working on an all-new model.
While the prototype is dressed in heavy camouflage, it’s clear the crossover will adopt a more rugged design that borrows a number of cues from the facelifted Ridgeline.
Starting up front, we can see an upright fascia with a large grille that features a 3D mesh pattern. The latter is flanked by LED headlights, a wide lower intake and air curtains at the outside edges of the front bumper.

The sides are heavily disguised, but it appears the redesigned Pilot will have a flatter hood and a more dynamic greenhouse. The model also appears to be slightly larger than its predecessor, but it’s hard to be certain at this point.
One of the more noticeable changes is the rakish rear window that gives the crossover a less boxy appearance. However, spy photographers suggested the production model will have a more upright rear end to maximize cargo capacity.
While a lot of questions remain, the model is expected to ride on the same platform that underpins the 2022 Acura MDX. It’s stiffer than the current architecture and could use a double-wishbone front suspension just like it’s more premium counterpart.
Engine options remain unconfirmed, but we wouldn’t be surprised to a find a 3.5-liter V6 producing 290 hp (216 kW / 294 PS) and 267 lb-ft (362 Nm) of torque. There have also been rumors about a plug-in hybrid variant, but nothing is official as of yet.
