Audi intends to offer 20 EVs by 2025 and spy photographers have snapped the first photos of an all-new electric crossover.
Expected to be called the Q5 e-tron, the model will slot above the upcoming Q4 e-tron and feature a more spacious interior.
While the prototype is heavily disguised, we can see it will have a rounded front fascia with a fully enclosed grille and slender headlights. Further below, there’s a wide lower opening and air curtains at the outside edges of the vehicle.

Moving further back, we can see streamlined bodywork and a prominent shoulder line. Other notable highlights include a rakish windscreen that flows into a gently sloping roof.
Continuing out back, the prototype has an angular rear window and a liftgate-mounted spoiler. We can also see temporary taillights and a curvaceous bumper which lacks exhaust cut outs.
Little is known about the crossover at this point, but it’s expected to ride on the new PPE architecture that was jointly developed with Porsche. When the platform was announced in 2019, Audi confirmed it would be used to underpin an assortment of vehicles including crossovers, sportbacks and wagons.
The architecture is “generally similar” to Volkswagen’s MEB platform, but features higher-end technologies such as an 800 volt electrical system and a 350 kW charging capability. Audi also hinted PPE-based vehicles could be offered with an air suspension, all-wheel steering and torque vectoring.
While details are lacking at the moment, the Q5 e-tron could be introduced next year as a 2023 model. Speculation also suggests it could be followed by a sportback variant.
Update: It appears the model is the Q5 e-tron and the not the Q6 e-tron as previously stated
