Bling Roewe iMax 8 Clad In Gold Accents Is (Thankfully) A One-Off

SAIC has unveiled a special one-off version of the Roewe iMax 8 that makes the MPV stand out even more.

The covers were lifted off the Roewe iMax 8 in October last year and as a recent review revealed, it is quite a compelling vehicle. This one-off takes things to the next level and was created by local Chinese artist Wang Kaifang.

Adorning the exterior of the iMax 8 are a multitude of gold components, including the front grille, front air intake shrouds, headlight surrounds, wing mirrors, window trims, side skirts, rear fascia, and the exterior badging. The MPV is also sitting on a set of gold wheels.

Car News China notes that Wang is an experienced sculptor with a wealth of experience using gold in his art pieces. No interior shots of the unique iMax 8 have been shared, so it is impossible to know if the gold accents continue into the cabin.

While the iMax 8 looks unique, it is actually based on the pre-existing Maxus G20 also sold in China and is available in six, seven, and eight-seat configurations. It is currently offered with two different engine options. The first is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder rated at 180 hp, while those after more power can opt for a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 224 hp. Both engines work alongside an Aisin eight-speed automatic transmission, while in the near future, an all-electric version with around 200 hp is expected to hit the market.
