The first examples of the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport have started to land in the United States and Matt Farah from The Smoking Tire was among the first local journalists to put one through its paces.
In typical fashion, Farah’s review takes place on the mountain and canyon roads just outside of Los Angeles. These roads have a nice mixture of long straights, flowing curves, and tight hairpins and were a great place to test drive the Pur Sport.

Like the standard Chiron, the Pur Sport is powered by an 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine with 1,479 hp and 1,180 lb-ft (1,600 Nm) of torque. However, this engine now redlines 200 rpm higher at 6,900 rpm and is coupled to a revised seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with 15 per cent shorter gear ratios. Power is still sent to all four wheels.
In a straight line, the Pur Sport is an absolute weapon, as you would expect, and during the review, Farah tests the launch control system on two occasions and is blown away by how the Bugatti gets off the line, spinning up all four wheels with ease.
However, it is the handling that impresses the veteran reviewer the most. The Pur Sport, like the regular Chiron, is big and heavy and yet, it is able to carve through corners with the type of ease and finesse of a far smaller car. The improved handling has been achieved through various modifications, including adding 2.5 degrees of negative camber at the front and rear, stiffening the front and rear springs, and fitting harder bearings.
