The 2021 Bronco Sport is being recalled for the second time in the United States after Ford discovered that certain units might have been assembled with incorrect front lower control arms due to a supplier manufacturing error.
All vehicles included in this safety campaign, 106 units in total with a 50 percent estimated defect rate, were produced on December 9, 2020, and they will have to be taken back to the dealers, who will inspect them and install the correct control arms if necessary at no cost to the owners.
Review: Is The Ford Bronco Sport Worthy Of The Bronco Name?
“Vehicles with an incorrect lower control arm may experience reduced stability during aggressive driving maneuvers, increasing the risk of rollover under maximum roof load”, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration explains, adding that the automaker is unaware of any accidents or injuries due to this issue. “The supplier (Martinrea Automotive Structures in Mexico) produced front suspension modules with incorrect front lower control arms due to insufficient material control.”
Dealers became aware of the problem last month. The recall is expected to begin on April 5, when owners of the affected Bronco Sport SUVs will be notified by Ford. The official number for this recall is 21S03, and Ford’s customer service can be reached at 1-866-436-7332. Owners can also contact the NHTSA’s hotline at 1-888-327-4236 should they have any questions on the topic.
The latest recall for the Bronco Sport comes just a few weeks after Ford announced that 1,666 units of the SUV could have been assembled with rear suspension modules that were not fully secured to the sub-frame.
