The Honda Civic Type R has been sitting at the throne of the hot hatch segment for quite some time now, and the latest Limited Edition proves to be the most focused performer of the lineup widening the gap even further from its front-wheel drive competitors.

The Civic Type R Limited Edition is slightly lighter and more aggressive in its setup, while the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine has been left untouched, producing the same 306 HP (310 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque as the standard model.

Honda will produce a total of 1,020 examples of the FK8 Civic Type R Limited Edition worldwide, with the US market getting 600 of them and the UK just 20, with the latter being sold-out. Evo magazine took the angriest of the Type Rs on the Bedford Autodrome for a fast lap where, despite the cold and damp conditions, it managed to set a time of 1:22.96, or six-tenths of a second quicker than the similarly hardcore Renault Megane RS Trophy-R.

Evo notes that the weather conditions during Renault’s lap time were much more favorable too and that the two hot hatches had the same sticky Michelin Cup 2 R tires, which makes the lap time of the Civic Type R Limited Edition even more impressive.

Honda managed to trim 103 lbs (47 kg) off the Civic Type R’s weight figure by removing sound-deadening material, the cargo cover, the rear heater ducts, the rear wiper mechanism, the air-conditioning, and more, as well as adding a set of lighter forged BBS wheels.

The adaptive dampers of the Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition have been retuned specifically for this application, while the lucky few who will get one can have it in any color they want as long as it’s Sunlight Yellow with gloss black detailing on the bodywork.
