While the COVID-19 pandemic has largely ceased international travel as we know it, that doesn’t mean the boys from The Grand Tour have been sitting on the couch waiting for borders to re-open. In fact, a new special is on the way.
During a recent interview with Drivetribe, Jeremy Clarkson confirms that a special was filmed in Scotland late last year with three classic American cars – and adds that Hammond had an “accident” during filming.
“I’d say it’s Clarkson, Hammond and May ‘Unplugged’,” Clarkson says in the interview. “So because we’re not abroad, because we’re not dealing with extreme heat or extreme cold or extreme terrain really. It’s like us three are doing what we did do years and years and years ago, where we’re sort of in England, well, it’s not England it’s Scotland, but in Britain, and it’s a bit cold and it rains a lot.”

Clarkson soon adds that The Grand Tour team will head off for another trip in late April, confirming that it too will be filmed in the UK. Work on yet another special will take place later this year when the team can head overseas, Clarkson reveals.
The most recent episode of The Grand Tour was released on December 17, 2020 and saw Clarkson, May, and Hammond drive a Bentley Continental GT V8, a Ford Focus RS, and a Caterham 7 310R in both Reunion Island and Madagascar. The previous special before that premiered on December 13, 2019 and saw the trio traveling along the Mekong Delta in three boats. Here’s hoping we won’t have to wait until December this year to see the Scottish special.
