Kia surprised many when it announced a flagship variant of the all-electric EV6 dubbed the GT that’s delivering performance more akin to a supercar. It has since confirmed that it will build other EVs with the GT designation and a similar performance philosophy.
Thanks to a pair of powerful electric motors and a 77.4 kWh battery pack, the Kia EV6 GT pumps out no less than 577 hp and 546 lb-ft (740 Nm) of torque, allowing it to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.5 seconds, which is quicker than the Porsche Taycan 4S. The EV6 GT tops out at 162 mph (260 km/h) and can travel 252 miles (405 km) on a single charge.

During a recent interview with Car Sales in Australia, Kia’s head of global brand and customer experience, Artur Martins, said many GT derivatives would be launched of the brand’s upcoming EVs.
“GT is an important element of our strategy moving forward,” Martins said. “We had it already in the internal combustion engines in Stinger and some of the products in the portfolio like K5 and Forte so it’s part of our strategy today. It will be an important part of our strategy moving forward. EVs… were seen in the past as boring cars, not very attractive from the design perspective and not very exciting to drive.”
“We want Kia to be perceived as an exciting brand and regardless of whether you are driving an EV or an internal combustion engine, we want that DNA to be brought across all the products of the brand – at least ones that make sense, of course,” he added.
Kia is planning a fleet of innovative electric vehicles. In fact, in September 2020 it announced that by 2027, it will launch no less than seven dedicated EVs, with the EV6 being the first of them.
