Lexus introduced the IS 500 F Sport Performance last month and it appears the model is about to gain a special edition.

The company is keeping details under wraps, but they released a teaser video that shows a “special” IS 500 on the track. Unfortunately, it’s not very revealing as the only thing that jumps out is a set of matte black wheels.

Lexus was also tight-lipped on specifics as they said “If you love sports sedans as much as we do, we have something very special in store for you.” That isn’t much to go on, but the mysterious model will be introduced at 7 p.m. ET tonight.

A refresher on the new IS 500 F Sport Performance

Regardless of what Lexus is planning, the IS 500 F Sport Performance has a 5.0-liter V8 engine that produces 472 hp (352 kW / 479 PS) and 395 lb-ft (536 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which enables the 3,891 lbs (1,765 kg) sports sedan to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.5 seconds.

Sticking with the performance theme, the car is equipped with an adaptive variable suspension and a Yamaha rear damper that “reduces dynamic structural distortion, delivering increased comfort at low speeds, and additional stability and agility at high speeds.” Other highlights include a limited slip differential and an upgraded braking system that features 14 inch (356 mm) two-piece aluminum rotors up front.

On the styling front, the IS 500 is distinguished by a bulging hood and a four-tailpipe exhaust system. The front bumper and fenders have also been “lengthened to help accommodate the vehicle’s naturally aspirated V8.” Other notable highlights include dark chrome trim, a black rear spoiler and exclusive 19-inch lightweight alloy wheels.

The 2022 IS 500 F Sport Performance will be launched this fall and the mysterious special edition will likely arrive around the same time.
