Shelby American is celebrating what would have been the 98th birthday of Carroll Shelby with the release of the limited-run Shelby Super Snake Speedster.
As its name implies, the car is a Speedster version of the regular Shelby Super Snake and is, therefore, outfitted with the same 5.0-liter supercharged V8 delivering 825 hp. Customers can opt for either a six-speed manual transmission or an automatic, both of which send power exclusively to the rear wheels.
Shelby American has made the Super Snake Speedster a reality by developing a tonneau cover that sits behind the seats. The car also features unique striping as well as distinctive floormats and new door sill plates. Customers can also option a widebody package, Penske track suspension, and a rear seat delete with a harness bar.

Like the hardtop Shelby Super Snake, the Speedster features new six-piston front and four-piston rear brake calipers. Production of the Shelby Super Snake Speedster will be limited to just 98 examples.
“The new Speedster is stunning,” president of Shelby American, Gary Patterson, said. “From a styling perspective, there is simply nothing like it on the road. With the widebody option, it’s a rare combination of sleek elegance and American muscle machismo. This is the automotive equivalent of a powerful heavyweight boxer fitted into a stylish, fine suit. And with only 98 available in the US, it will be ultra-rare.”
Shelby American has also made a number of updates to its Shelby GT, Shelby GT500SE, and Shelby Super Snake hardtop models to celebrate Carroll Shelby’s 98th birthday. For example, the new Signature Edition package for the 2021 GT500 boosts power to 800 hp and includes a carbon fiber hood with functional air vents, various suspension modifications, and some styling changes.
