Lunaz is a British-based company that specializes in turning classic high-end British metal into rapid, zero-emissions electric cars. It already offers electric conversions on the original Range Rover, Jaguar XK120 and Rolls Royce Phantom V and Silver Cloud, and now you can add a vintage Bentley to that list.
This 1961 Bentley S3 Continental Flying Spur is the great granddad of the current Flying Spur, and was once powered by an all-alloy 6.2-liter L-series Rolls Royce/Bentley V8.
But not any longer. Lunaz hasn’t released specific details about the S3’s new silent powertrain but it’s likely to comprise the same motor and battery already used in their Rolls-Royce Cloud conversions.
Those cars are fitted with a pair of electric motors that send a combined 375 hp and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque to the rear wheels. And while Rolls and Bentley never liked to discuss grubby details like power figures in the old days, you can bet the original S3 was putting out half as much.

An 80kWh battery allows you to drive – or be chauffeured – for 300 miles between charges in the Phantom, and we’d expect similar figures for the Bentley.
Lunaz has uprated the Continental’s brakes and suspension and added an electrically-assisted steering setup to help manage the newfound performance. And there’s more technology inside in the shape of a modern air conditioning system and retro-look infotainment display that features Apple CarPlay.
But to the outside world it looks very much like any other old Bentley that’s undergone a painstaking bare-metal restoration.
This particular Flying Spur was finished in two-tone green at the owner’s request. However, you can order yours in any color, and it doesn’t have to be an S3 Continental Flying Spur either as Lunaz will also restore and modify older S1 and S2 Continentals. Want a two-door or a convertible? They can do that too, provided you’ve got at least £350,000 ($486,000) to hand over.
It sounds like plenty of people are happy to do that. Lunaz is getting ready to double its workforce and move into brand new factory.
But its business plan isn’t focused purely on classic EV conversions. The main focus is the proprietary electric tech, which Lunaz wants to supply to companies looking to upgrade their existing fleets of cars and vans to clean energy.
