The votes are in and more than 122,000 Minnesotans have voted to name eight snowplows in the state’s fleet. And, of course, Plowy McPlowface tops the list.
The winning names are: Plowy McPlowFace (Metro district); Ope, Just Gonna Plow Right Past Ya (District 4); Duck Duck Orange Truck (District 1); Plow Bunyan (District 2); Snowbi Wan Kenobi (District 6); F. Salt Fitzgerald (District 7), Darth Blader (District 3); and The Truck Formerly Known As Plow (District 8).
The competition started earlier this winter and people were asked to submit suggestions for the names of eight plows. Each plow will serve in one of Minnesota’s eight districts. More than 24,000 suggestions came in, according to CBS Minnesota, and the list was whittled down to 50 that people were asked to vote for online.
Although more than 120,000 people voted, each was allowed to pick their eight favorite names. The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced the winners last week, along with the voting results for all 50 names.

The least popular, earning just 4,045 votes was “Frostbite” while the most popular, “Plowy McPlowFace, earned itself a stunning 65,000 votes, more than twice as many as any other name on the list.
Darth Blader wasn’t the only Star Wars-themed name in the top 50, with Luke Snowalker and C-3PSnow also making the top 50. Prince also got some more love with “Purple Snow,” while Mary Tyler Moore also got some attention with “Mary Tyle More Snow.”
Along with the references, there were also some (respectful) Native American names suggested. Giiwedin, the Ojibwe word for “north wind,” narrowly avoided making the top ten as did Ičamna, the Dakota word for ‘blizzard’.
The competition also courted some controversy as the MnDOT chose not to include the name “Abolish ICE,” despite being the second-most submitted name, according to a Minnesota Reformer public records request.
