After years of broken promises, Jeep finally introduced the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer last week.
However, the models feel a bit soulless as they eschew the classic design cues that made the originals so iconic. If you’re inclined to agree, you might want to check out this 1979 Wagoneer on eBay.
The listing is light on specifics, but the model is a restomod that appears in relatively original condition. That being said, it has been given a two-tone paint job recently and equipped with retro-styled wheels wrapped in new Toyo Open Country all-terrain tires.

While the exterior looks pretty good at first glance, there are some issues such as pits on the windshield and trim that could use a little love. On the bright side, the Wagoneer appears largely devoid of rust.
The so-so job continues in the cabin as the poorly wrapped dashboard is an eyesore and something bound to drive perfectionists crazy. Thankfully the reupholstered seats turned out much better.
The cabin also sports air conditioning and original gauges. We can also see what appears to be the original radio, but the listing notes the vehicle is equipped with a “hidden stereo with subwoofer” so it’s likely just for show.
Under the hood, the old AMC engine has been replaced by a GM-sourced 5.3-liter V8. There’s no word on specifications, but it’s connected to an automatic transmission and a four-wheel drive system.
That brings us to the final downside as the seller is asking $54,999 (£39,478 / €46,161) or best offer. That’s almost as much as the new Wagoneer and you can get a used Grand Wagoneer for less.
