Peugeot is taking yet another swing at the compact hatchback segment, as the all-new 308 is getting ready to challenge the likes of the Volkswagen Golf & Co.
Unveiled last week with sharp styling inspired by the 508, new gear and powertrains, it will be joined by an estate version before the end of the year or in early 2022.
Expected to retain the 308 SW moniker of its predecessor, it was imagined by Kolesa with an elongated roof, bigger three-quarter windows and rear fenders, and a slightly longer rear overhang. The front and rear ends look pretty much identical to the hatchback, and we wouldn’t be surprised if the final production model will look close to this.

The all-new 308 SW will launch with the same equipment as the hatchback, including the two 10-inch main screens inside for the infotainment system and digital dials, wireless screen mirroring and eight different driver profiles. The long-range blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, 360-degree camera system and emergency call will be some of the on-board safety gear.
As for powertrains, the new 308 hatchback is offered with two plug-in hybrid units. The entry-level one combines a 150 HP engine and a 109 HP electric motor, and can travel for 37 miles (60 km) on electricity. The upper spec will have a 180 HP ICE and a 109 HP motor, and an all-electric range of 36 miles (58 km). Customers can also choose between a 1.2-liter petrol and a 1.5-liter diesel, both with 128 HP.
