Peugeot, Nissan, and Volkswagen have all updated their logos recently and Renault didn’t want to get left behind. So the French brand has announced that it will update its logo, too.
First shown on the Renault 5 Prototype but only now made brand-wide, the new logo sticks with the diamond-shaped imagery that has been with it since 1925 but updates it for a modern world of apps and minimalism.
The logo will make its first production appearance on a vehicle in 2022 (the production version of the Renault 5 is expected in 2023) and will be on every one of its vehicles by 2024. According to Gilles Vidal, Renault’s Design Director, the strong reaction to the Renault 5 Prototype was what pushed the brand to make the switch official.

“We have rethought it to become more iconic, simple and meaningful, a true timeless signature, without superfluous effects or colors, with a contemporary takeover of the lines, an essential part of our graphic heritage,” says Vidal.
Indeed, the diamond-shaped logo has been around since 1925. Although it has been updated several times over the years, the most recent 3D version of the logo was first designed in 1992. Renault felt, then, that it was time for a change.
Indeed, the new logo is supposed to imply movement and progress with its inter-playing lines.
“With the line, it is a question of telling a story, that of a symbiosis, a cycle, a path between two lozenges which are intertwined by an optical effect, creating a complementarity and the impression of continuous movement,” says Vidal.
And although the new logo is certainly attractive, we hope the trend continues and the Renault 5 Prototype‘s design sensibilities are expanded to the rest of the lineup.
